74 likes, 7 comments - jjoongie on April 9, 2026: "i was supposed to update my linkedin and do more antitrust outlining yesterday, but @owlslittlelibrary told me i would like cora claire burke’s YESTERYEAR — and she was absolutely 100% right. the stuff of YESTERYEAR is like CATNIP to me: a trad wife influencer from a distorted christian upbringing has too many kids, a spoiled husband, and an Online life that is so vastly different from her actual life and requires so much obsessive maneuvering and manipulating, the trad wife spins out of control and finds herself thrown back in time to the century of actual homesteading. i love this shit. YESTERYEAR is a fun, quick read, and i loved the way it was structured. the narrator is also darkly hilarious in her sanctimonious rage. the novel, overall, makes you think about the toxicity of social media, the patriarchal society we live in and the misogyny that results, and the outsized, unrealistic burdens women are made to carry, responsible not only for the bearing and rearing of children but also for the lives and careers of husbands, but burke never gets preachy or didactic. none of this excuses the choices our trad wife influencer narrator makes, but it does show how internalized misogyny is a terrifying poison. i rarely, if ever, read fiction by white authors, but i’ve already read two in 2026. that’s weird. YESTERYEAR is also a very American book, one that is very prescient and specific to our present zeitgeist, so it’s fascinating from that lens as well. anyway. this was fun and clever, and it’s sad that it’ll probably go over the heads of the people who should actually chew on what burke is saying. as the trad wife influencer herself says, “most people don’t take a moment to really think about anything. most people are morons.” i really have to update my linkedin. . . .
