Mrs Chan and Chow meet each other on 1963, the last shots of the movie are set on 1969, so that child could be 6 year old, on the other hand he could be the son of Mr and Mrs Chan, we haven't got any element to say that Mrs Chan and Chow have been having sex at that time, no one sequence in the movie suggests that. What do u think about it? One can only speculate with the version of the film that was released in theaters. However, in the deleted scenes for the film, there is a scene where, during one of the times in the hotel room of 2046, they both attempted a start at a sexual relationship, but Mrs. Chan couldn't go through with it, because Chow didn't look like her husband (he also responded that she didn't look like his wife).
