Once upon a time, at an end-of-year teaching team dinner, I was talking with a friend of mine about New Year’s Resolutions. Every year, she said, she set herself the goal of reading 52 books the following year. What an amazing achievement! To read one book a week! I realised I wanted to spend substantially more time reading and, one day, achieve this myself. I haven’t made it yet, but ever since the beginning of 2019, I’ve kept a list of all of the books I have read. Actually, I’m counting more than just books, for example there are a few web comics in my log, and I’m counting more than just reading, for example there are a couple of audiobooks and lecture series. That’s why I called this post ‘generalised reading.’ This weekend, I set myself the task of reviewing that the first six years of my log.
