Why I'm becoming disillusioned with Effective Altruism

A warning to anyone reading this - I'm attempting to write this post in under 1 hour, partly as an exercise in combatting perfectionism, and partly because most of my mental energy is currently going towards my work. So apologies in advance if aspects of the structure of this post come off as a bit cobbled together. The reason I'm writing this is mainly as an opportunity to collect and voice my own thoughts on the matter. Maybe in the future I'll return and polish aspects of this argument which I think are weaker, and at that point I might decide to post it on the EA forum, but more likely it will just stay on my website. That said, if you'd like to leave feedback or offer thoughts / counterarguments (even to this rougher version of the post), feel free to email me at cal.s.mcdougall@gmail.com.
