SUNDAY PUZZLE — Joel Fagliano, in his print introduction to this grid, writes: “John Kugelman, of Gainesville, Va., is a software engineer and musician. This is his third crossword for The Times — all Sundays. Crossword construction and music ‘tickle all the same brain cells,’ he says, as each is ‘half-creative and half-technical.’” “Sundays are like the progressive rock of crosswords,” Mr. Kugelman adds. “I love 20-minute songs, and I love 21x21 grids.” Mr. Kugelman also seems to love double definitions, or he at least has a finely tuned eye for them. His last Sunday puzzle, from January, gave familiar phrases new meaning through creative cluing, and today’s theme plays with a tiny bit of punctuation to similar effect. There are eight theme entries, at 23-, 35-, 55-, 79-, 95- and 110-Across, and at 15- and 49-Down. Their clues are short, italicized and posed as questions. I don’t think any of the entries are easy to figure out without plenty of letters in place from crossing entries.
