In one of the recent posts on this sub, someone asked how long does it take typically to get to an MD role. One of the responses with quite a few upvotes (and that I have seen in numerous other places as well) was that the typical progression is 2-3 years analyst (150-200k) ; 2-3 years associate (200-300k) ; 2-3 years VP (idk the numbers but must be 300k+) ; 2-3 years director. Does every one get through with such a career progression or is it only a tiny section of people who can make it past the associate level to VP? I’m a CS sophomore in a non target who sometimes thinks about exploring IB as a potential career path too. Quite a few friends of mine are going into IB. When I ask them why they chose IB, they say that Because the career progression is very standard and pretty much set High salary Exit opp. after the intensive and stressful IB work into something relatively less stressful perhaps PE or HF (can’t remember exactly which) This sometimes makes me rethink about my career ch
