There are those who are born with it---I think there are very few of them, like Terry Tao for instance. Then there are those who are born with it, but then feel entitled and then don't do anything with it and don't get to their full potential. And then I believe a big chunk of mathematicians are people who are good at math and then decide to become better by working hard. And so this is my advice for anyone who wants to study math: be persistent. Looking back, when I was in my early teens, my grades in math were not that great. I used to make mistakes. I liked to rush to finish my work and I never used to checked my answers. I remember that all of our exams when I was kid had always four computational problems: one addition, one subtraction, one multiplication, one in division and one that would mix all of them. These were just four operations that I needed to master, and yet I used to miss so many of these questions because I rushed. Your performance in math in high school or middle s
