Eric is a student of Economics from Hong Kong, currently in his first year at Cambridge, and has bagged the top prize of £5,000, despite never having had a poem published in a magazine before. His winning poem ‘Fricatives’ – which won out over 16,729 other entries – deals deftly with migration, language and family. One of the three judges, Fiona Benson, said:
