It feels like this sort of letter is the kind of thing I’m supposed to write when I turn 21. You know, when I become an Officially Certified Adult, wise and worldly enough to do things you’d never dream of. Like rent a car. Or get a concealed carry license. Or drink alcohol inside a casino while getting married without parental consent. But it’s not a binary transition; it’s not like something snaps inside you and morphs you into a sage when you turn 21. We’ve all just been steadily (but not always necessarily slowly) drinking from the firehose of life. So anyways. it always feels to me like everyone else writes these things like they’ve been through hell and back, like in the last two years they’ve read the Dragon Scroll of Great And Holy Wisdom; like they’re the main character of some bildungsroman, or whatever those are called.
