Hi there & happy lunar new year, Valentine’s Day, etc. to those who celebrate! this was the first year that I was able to properly set aside time to celebrate February holidays (a little-known perk of grad school!). also, we’ve gotten a lot of rain the past couple of weeks in LA, which is not great for traffic and infrastructure here but I’ve found it to be kind of a refreshing break from the sun. I attended QIP (Quantum Information Processing) for the first time this year, which might have been a mistake because it definitely raised my expectations, lol. it seemed like the conference organizers had gotten a lot of support from the local government for the conference, so they pulled out all the stops. everything took place at the Taipei International Conference Center, which is a really nice building next door to Taipei 101. we also got a custom IC card design, which was super cute: Venue aside, I had a pretty good experience at the conference.
