Sound is the forgotten sense in web design. Used well, it adds feedback, personality, and presence that visuals alone cannot achieve.

We've collectively decided that the web should be mute. I've never understood why. Native apps use sound constantly to confirm actions, signal errors, provide notifications and nobody thinks less of them for it. Same goes for games, or any other form of interactive media. Yet on the web, sound is rare, often jarring, and frequently maligned as unprofessional or intrusive. I think this is because people have probably had bad experiences with sound on the web. I've had my share of autoplaying music, loud error beeps, unnecessary clicks. These are valid complaints, but they miss the point: sound
