Went to Stanford. In the US the top schools award scholarships mostly based on need, so it will likely be free tuition at the very least. I actually ended up getting a stipend on top of room/board/books. I ended up choosing Stanford over MIT because it seemed to have a lot more fun on top of just schoolwork. I got there by joining all the clubs and doing all the academics in hs. Captain of soccer, XC, science club, and science bowl as well as other extracurriculars. I would recommend https://www.questbridge.org/ if you are looking at top schools with low income. They offer full scholarships for high performing low income and if you advance to the matching phase, even if you don’t get the scholarship, you get to apply as a ‘quest scholar’ which can give you a leg up when applying. Quest scholars also get application fees waived. The school itself is somewhat jarring. You don’t know what kids with money think/act like until you’re actually in a room with them.
