I’m not so self-important to apologize for a pause in the publishing of a Substack, but I do apologize if I have been absent in your lives in a personal way over the last three months! I have been… busy. As many of you know, I spent roughly two years without a permanent apartment, doing only short-term rentals and sublets in different cities. It was exhilarating and immensely worthwhile, but, after a while, I began to become consumed with the problem of where to put my Stuff. It was so stupid. There really wasn’t any other reason. I had been storing everything in my brother’s basement, and, although I knew that the primary reason I had to move my things out of there was out of consideration for them, I also found myself more and more — I was going to write “frustrated,” but maybe the real word is “panicked”? — every time I went down into the basement, whose floor is dust, to comb through bags of my Stuff all jumbled together, winter clothes and books from grad school and another shampo
