Rank David Lynch movies [thread] : r/criterion
I recently got into David Lynch and have so far seen these movies (in order of favorite). I think these are all good movies in their own right— and I definitely need to rewatch all of them. Just curious what are your rankings and why? Blue Velvet Inland Empire Mulholland Drive Lost Highway/Eraserhead BV to me strikes the perfect balance of Lynch weirdness and subtext, while also having a rather strait forward engaging plot. It’s an instant favorite for me. I didn’t find it as challenging as some of the others. Inland Empire was full tilt towards Lynch weirdness— an audio visual nightmare that stuck with me like crazy. Mulholland drive is beautiful and I love the somber longing vibe of it. The contradictions between real Hollywood and imagined Hollywood are pointed out so well. Lost Highway was cool. I need to revisit, maybe I’m missing something. I feel the same about Eraserhead. Cool but didn’t speak to me personally the way some of the others did. Monkey Interrogation. The rest. Haha
