It seems that several countries toyed with the idea and tried bullpup rifles - and discarded the idea for "normal" rifle design. Germany went with G36, Russia with AKxxx, US with M16 descendants, etc. Why rifles like Steyr AUG, PS90, FN2000 aren't becoming the mainstream in the armies of many more countries?
