Over the past decade, several actors demonstrated how easily they could raise an army of zombie devices with their botnet using a wide range of techniques, from using phishing to install malware on a desktop host up to leveraging different kind of vulnerabilities affecting IoT devices, CCTV, or residential routers. These botnets have been largely used to send DDoS attacks using tens of thousands of compromised devices all around the world.
