My life blew up in the last bit of 2023. Or maybe I blew my life up. Either way, none of it really felt like a choice. In late October, I left my job in tech to heal from burnout and focus on my art. In December, my relationship of 3 years suddenly ended. This also meant we had to break a lease early and move out of the apartment we called home. I find it both devastating and poetic how so much was cleared away all at once, how so many of the core facets of my life that I’d thought were more permanent fixtures were suddenly gone. The timing of it all felt cruelly orchestrated, just one life-altering moment after another. I guess it is winter after all, and maybe some things — identities, relationships, spaces — are supposed to die. As much as it hurts now, I trust that unimaginably more beautiful things will bloom in their place.
