Alternative HCI Paradigms Analysis
Time range: Should this include historical paradigms from the 1960s–2000s, or also current experimental models (e.g. AR/VR spatial OS, ambient computing)? Scope: Limit to alternatives specifically proposed as replacements for the desktop metaphor, or also include complementary HCI paradigms (e.g. tangible computing, zoomable UIs, reactive environments)? Depth: Do you want technical implementation details (hardware constraints, OS design), user experience studies (what failed in adoption), or both? Once clarified, I’ll compile a structured analysis of failed or under-adopted paradigms, what blocked them, and implications for paradigm shift conditions. Understood. I will compile a comprehensive and deeply analytical exploration of alternative and complementary paradigms to the desktop metaphor in HCI, including failed, niche, and diverse approaches. This will include historical and modern attempts, reasons for adoption failure or limited traction, constraints such as hardware or cognitio
