Most discussions surrounding AI are relatively recent and still highly neglected. Yet, when it comes to the questions related to AI and the Global South, especially, AI-related implications on the global economic and political order, the space seems even more overlooked. There are four key aspects to distinguish: There is an urgent need for a more widespread debate on the global implications of AI, its feasible and equitable governance structures, and ensuring a fair global AI regulation system before it is too late. The existing work on the impacts of AI automation or regulation is highly localised, predominantly referring to the so-called “Global North” countries (e.g. Trammel and Korinek 2023).
