Period tracking applications (PTAs) are widely used digital health tools, yet most usability evaluations have been conducted in high-income settings. This geographic imbalance limits understanding of how PTAs function in the Global South, where they often serve as a primary source of menstrual health information. This study aimed to evaluate the usability of the Flo period tracking app among Global South users. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed: 50 participants completed the user version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (uMARS), and 10 participants subsequently participated in Con-current Think-Aloud (CTA) sessions. uMARS results indicated high overall usability (mean score = 4.08), with Functionality, Aesthetics, and Information rated strongly, while Engagement scored lower (mean = 3.86). Subjective quality ratings showed high willingness to recommend (76%) and continued use (58%), but limited willingness to pay (36%). CTA analysis revealed eight themes, including reliable core functionality and educational value, alongside concerns about vague symptom scales, subscription barriers, and privacy. These findings suggest that Flo is perceived as usable and impactful but would benefit from design refinements addressing health literacy, transparent monetization, and culturally sensitive privacy practices. The study demonstrates the value of combining uMARS with CTA to capture both structured ratings and lived experiences and provides actionable insights for developing more inclusive FemTech tools for diverse global users.
