When Covid-19 became classified as a pandemic, Angela and I were almost done our first year of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Suddenly, we went from sitting in class 5 days a week to suddenly moving back home and having more free time. For Angela and I, that sounded like the perfect opportunity to develop our skills and dive into something new — deep learning. We have always loved math and science and the Project Aqua fellowship felt like an amazing opportunity to not only contribute to an open-source project, but also to grow as Biomedical Engineering students. After being selected for the project Aqua fellowship, we deciding to take on this daunting new task with the hopes of beginning to understand deep learning. We began to set short term weekly goal which laid out our summer plans and we began to find new resources and discover more about deep learning.
