For years I have heard fellow artists explain their practice beginning with: “I am interested in notions of…” “I am interested in the intersection between…” “I am interested in questioning…” I searched for the phrase “I am interested in” in connection to “artist statement” and was embarrassed at how far reaching this crutch phrase is among my peers.
