Great Products Have Great Premises

The most powerful thing a product can do is give its user a premise.1 A premise is the foundational belief that shapes a user’s behavior. A premise can normalize actions that people otherwise might not take, held back by some existing norm. A good premise gives you context. It sets the stage to make you more comfortable doing something that can be hard to do. A great premise gives you permission. It tells you it’s ok to do something that you otherwise aren’t even sure is ok to do. A great premise is a foundation for a great product and brand.
